About Amplify Impact

Amplify Impact — thecompany behind the model.

Most strategy frameworks assume one bottom line. We build the operating system for organisations carrying two — mission and sustainability — because no canvas built for a single-metric business was ever going to hold both. Our aim is simple to state and hard to deliver: to be the most critical friend to the people and organisations who've dedicated their careers to making the world better.

The practice

What we do, why we do it, and how the work actually runs once we are in the building.

What we do

We turn impact into operating architecture.

The mission is rarely the missing piece. What is usually missing is the operating architecture beneath it: who owns which decision, what evidence reaches which meeting, where authority sits, how learning moves between teams, and whether participants remain visible when trade-offs are made. Impact thinking promises to keep purpose and people at the centre of the organisation. We make that promise operational, governable and measurable.

Why we do it

The Coolblue effect — and the gap it exposed.

For years, working inside the strategy, marketing and communications functions of mission-driven organisations, I kept chasing something I could not yet name: the Coolblue effect. Not the delivery vans — the designed pull that makes people return, engage more and bring somebody else with them. Commercial organisations understood that loyalty had to be engineered through the whole experience. Mission-driven organisations often assumed the mission itself would do that work. At the same time, I was helping organisations present a more coherent external story than their internal operating reality could consistently support. That tension became the starting point for Amplify Impact: not another way to improve the story, but a way to make the organisation earn it.

How we do it

Organisational change, made operational.

We do not parachute in with a generic template, leave behind a workshop deck and call it transformation. We work with the organisation through a repeatable cycle of diagnosis, co-design, challenge, implementation and anchoring. The Scan creates a shared baseline. The Impact Operating Strategy turns the findings into choices. The Leadership Design Workshop aligns mandate and sequence. Implementation support builds the five layers into real work. Where specialist capability is needed, Amplify Impact assembles and directs the right ecosystem rather than pretending one adviser can do everything. The goal is not dependency on us. It is an operating model that still works on an ordinary Tuesday after we leave the room.

Searching for the Coolblue Effect

For more than twelve years, sitting inside the strategy, marketing and communications functions of non-profits, social enterprises and donor-funded programmes, I was chasing something I could not yet name.

I wanted to understand how Coolblue could create loyalty, advocacy and genuine emotional investment around something as ordinary as a phone charger, while organisations working on issues that matter far more often struggled to create the same pull with participants, partners and funders.

Commercial organisations understood that loyalty had to be designed across every interaction. Mission-driven organisations often treated engagement as a campaign, participation as a consultation exercise and loyalty as something the importance of the mission should automatically secure.

It does not. People return when the system gives them a reason to.

Almost nobody around me was asking that question out loud, so I eventually stopped waiting for somebody else to answer it.

There is another part of the story that rarely makes it into a keynote, strategy document or annual report. For years, a significant part of my work was making organisations appear more coherent externally than they actually were internally.

The annual report was polished, the narrative was compelling and the impact looked deliberate. Monday morning was usually more complicated.

That was where the gap became impossible to ignore.

Behind the external confidence were fragmented decisions, unclear ownership, disconnected data, inconsistent delivery and capable teams working around systems that had never been designed to help them succeed.

That is not an accusation. It is standard practice across much of the sector. I became very good at making the gap less visible, and I never stopped being uncomfortable with it.

Amplify Impact exists because I no longer want to conceal that gap. I want to close it.

I am not selling organisations a better story. Any competent copywriter can make an organisation sound more strategic, coherent and effective than it is.

We build the governance, rhythms, decision rights, evidence systems and organisational discipline that make those claims true. Then, when the work deserves it, we help tell the story properly.

That means connecting ambition to delivery, accountability to authority, and impact to the decisions people make when nobody is preparing a report or watching a presentation.

It is the unglamorous plumbing beneath credible impact — and the difference between an organisation that communicates purpose and one genuinely organised around it.

Sometimes the truth has teeth. I would rather use it to build something stronger than dress it up again.
